Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:īeloved, being unified in the Spirit will put us in a position of strength. Paul devoted the entire fourth chapter of Ephesians to the importance of having unity in the Church: When Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus, he explained that God had placed within the Church apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers for the purpose of perfecting, building up, and bringing the Body to maturity.Īnd he gave some, apostles and some, prophets and some, evangelists and some, pastors and teachers For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word That they all may be one as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. It is about being bonded to one another in a shared yearning for the heart of God. It was not of the mind, or intellectual belief … it was a spiritual unity. The unity that Jesus was referring to in this prayer was not an outward unity. He prayed that we would be united as one. Jesus prayed for the unity of all believers.
